On April 23, at 6:30 a.m., Sharlynne Pickering’s water broke. At first it trickled, then it gushed. At 7 a.m., she called Stacy Calogero, a doula assigned to give her physical and emotional support during labour and childbirth. Calogero arrived at Pickering’s apartment at 9:30.
